Product Information
Labcut 5000 Series Precision Composite Plate Saw
The Labcut 5000 Series Precision Composite Plate Saw is built for precise cutting of composite materials for preparation of highly accurate composite test specimens.
The 5000 Series features four models accommodating for the cutting composite sheets 2 x 2ft to 4 x 4ft, with thickness anywhere up to 1.50 inches.
All units are controlled from an EZ-Pad easy to use electronic keypad controls. The fence position is indicated by a DRO (digital read out) so that section thickness is simply varied.

Features
- Main frame with slatted work table, internal recirculating coolant system
- Cutting head with variable speed traverse
- Precision fence mechanism for accurate cut section width
- Control module includes an EZ-Pad with built in PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) which controls all parameters with the exception of the DRO (digital read out) which controls the fence position.
The main frame construction has a flat stainless steel slatted worktable with stainless drip tray immediately below it. A small insert table is located at one end of the worktable so the small pieces of material can be handled more easily. The width of the table is made to accommodate the width of sheet being sectioned
Pneumatic Sheet Clamps
For accurate sectioning the composite sheet need to be firmly clamped during cutting. For this purpose pneumatic clamps are fitted to the worktable the entire length of the cutting head traverse. The clamping surfaces are rubberised for improved clamping of long sheets
Cutting Head Traverse
With the Labcut 5000 Series Precision Composite Plate Saws the cutting head moves accurately along linear bars. The alignment of the cutting wheel to the material fence and wheel slot is crucial for accurate parallel sections. For the standard models with a cut length of 2ft/600mm, the head runs on 40mm/1.55in diameter linear bars; with the models having a longer cut length of 4ft/1.25m, 60mm/2.35in diameter linear bars are required for stability.
The cutting head is powered by a 4hp/3kW (Labcut 7-9 S20 Series) or 7.5hp/5.5kW motor (Labcut 8-12 Series) motor. It is automatically raised at the end of the cutting cycle, returns to the start position and then lowers itself in position for another cut. The material is clamped to the work table during cutting by pneumatic clamps on both sides. Coolant jets are positioned inside the wheel guard on either side of the wheel to spray coolant on the cutting area.
- Automatic raise/lower of cutting head position (5000 Series) or automatic positioning of cutting head position according to the wheel diameter (Labcut 8-12 H40)
- Long pneumatic strips clamping composite sheet on both sides of cutting line
- Cutting head traversing on linear bars for accuracy
- Cutting head motor 3kW/4hp (5000 Series) or 5.5kW/7.5hp (Labcut 8-12 H40ries)
- Coolant jets incorporated into wheel guard
- Cutting head traverse speed is variable (requires inverter) and can be adjusted via the EZ-Pad
More Accurate Fence Mechanism
The fence, which runs on linear rails, has been designed to give accuracy over the longest cut lengths required for test specimens.
- The minimum cut width is 0.5in/12.7mm which can be reduced to 0.25in/6.4mm with an adapter provided.
- The maximum cut width is 12in/300mm for the 50202 Labcut 7-9 S20 and 50212 Labcut 8-12 H40
- The maximum cut width is 24in/600mm for the 50212 Labcut 8-12 H40 and 50414 Labcut 8-12 H40
- The fence position is shown on a DRO (digital read out) display
- A pneumatic lock is provided for a stable fence position during sectioning
Control Module Design
- Cutting machine operation controlled from EZ-Pad — includes an integrated PLC (Programmable Logic Controller)
- Optional wheel speed variation can be operated from EZ-Pad
- Additional controls on the control module are (a) for locking the fence position and (b) a reset for the keypad display
- Digital read out (DRO) of fence position to 0.1mm
Safety
Our machines conform to strict CE European Safety standards meaning they have met EU consumer safety, health and environmental requirements. Safety features include:
- An emergency stop switch is positioned for operator safety and shuts down the machine if there are operational problems. On the larger machines a second emergency stop is fitted in view of the length of the front panel.
- The canopy must be closed with the activator inserted into the safety switch in order to operate the machine.
- Access to the interior of the machine is not possible during cutting.
- The cutting wheel is surrounded by a guard for protection.
Optional
Inverter (for wheel speed variation)
Allows the user to alter the rpm of the cutting wheel for optimum results irrespective of wheel diameter.
Extec Item No. 50310 (note: must be installed at time of ordering 50202 or 50404)
Extec Item No. 50315 (note: must be installed at time of ordering 50212 or 50414)
Paper Band Filter Unit
Cutting composite materials tends to block the coolant circulation system. Using a moving filter roll keeps the coolant fresh and filters all the sludge and is highly recommended.
